String Trio

James Francis Brown’s remarkable two-movement String Trio has been described as a modern classic in a genre that is somewhat under-represented in the Twentieth Century.

The first movement is dominated by two contrasting subjects; quick and vigorous, and reflective and rhythmically free.

The second movement is a set of six variations which are all strongly marked with an emotional content ranging from dark and sombre to optimistic, radiant and cathartic.
